A first point worth settling before you compare anything: the generators on this page are built by Dingbo Power around Cummins engines. They are not sets manufactured by Cummins Power Generation. If a tender names the Cummins-branded set, tell us; if it names a Cummins engine, we can document exactly which one.
The listings run from 25 kVA to 2,500 kVA and are mainly 50 Hz, three-phase 400/230 V. What follows is a short guide to how the range is organised, how to read a Cummins engine code, and which four items on a datasheet decide whether two quotations are comparable.
One engine family, several ratings
Cummins generator engines are named by displacement: QSB3.9 is a 3.9 L engine, QSB5.9 a 5.9 L, QSL8.9 an 8.9 L, QSZ13 a 13 L. The G-number after it marks a specific rating variant of that family. That is why one family appears several times in the range at different outputs, and why a set label such as "250 kW" is only meaningful next to its full engine code.
| Engine family | Listed set ratings | Go to the model |
|---|
| 4B3.9-G2 (3.9 L) | 20 kW / 25 kVA | 25 kVA |
| QSB3.9 (G35, G37, G39) | 50 kW, 75 kW, 90 kW | 50 kW · 75 kW · 90 kW |
| QSB5.9 (G30, G31, G33) | 100 kW, 120 kW, 145 kW | 100 kW · 120 kW · 145 kW |
| QSL8.9 (G34, G33, G30) | 220 kW, 250 kW, 270 kW | 220 kW · 250 kW · 270 kW |
| QSZ13-G7 (13 L) | 320 kW / 400 kVA | 400 kVA |
| Larger sets | 550 kW up to 2000 kW | 550 kW · 1000 kW · 1200 kW · 2000 kW |
Ratings are as labelled on each product page. Whether a figure is prime or standby, and the electrical specification, are confirmed on the model datasheet. If your load sits right at the top of one family's range, ask us about the next family up as well.
Four columns that make quotations comparable
Cummins' own generator tables, and most serious tender specifications, are built on the same four columns. Ask any supplier, including us, to fill them in for the exact set quoted:
Rating
kVA and kW, stated as prime or standby, with the power factor, voltage and frequency.
Engine
Full model code including the G-number, and the engine's own output at that duty.
Enclosure, fuel tank, fuel consumption at 50%, 75% and 100% load, testing documents and delivery terms come after these four. A quotation that leaves any of them blank is a headline price, not a specification.
Three facts we ask for before recommending a set
The largest motor and how it starts. A 90 kW running load with a 45 kW motor started direct-on-line needs a different generator from the same load with a soft starter. Starting method often decides the size, not the running kW.
Duty and running hours. Emergency backup and daily prime power are different jobs, and the same engine carries a different label for each. If the set will run for long periods, say so at the start.
Frequency and site. Search results for Cummins generators are dominated by 60 Hz, North American sets. Ours are mainly 50 Hz; 60 Hz projects can be discussed by model, but state it early because engine speed and ratings change. Give altitude, ambient temperature and the installation drawing too, so the cooling and enclosure are sized with the set.
Housing, noise and where Cummins may not be the best fit
The same set can be supplied open for a generator room, in a silent canopy, in a container or on a trailer. If your site has a noise limit, ask for the noise figure of the exact enclosed configuration, not of the engine.
Below roughly 250 kVA, Perkins-powered sets are a real alternative, and Volvo sets are worth a look if that is the network your maintenance team already knows. The right engine is the one whose parts and service you can actually reach. For backup-only sites, see our notes on emergency versus standby generators.
Common questions
Is this a Cummins Power Generation set?
No. It is a Dingbo Power generator set with a Cummins engine (the listings name DCEC Cummins engines). Ask for the engine nameplate and factory documents for the specific set, and for the alternator and controller models in writing.
What does the price depend on?
The engine variant, alternator make, controller and ATS, housing and fuel tank, and the delivery terms to your port. Send the four columns above and your destination and we will quote a defined configuration.
Can I choose from total kW alone?
It is only the starting point. Motor starting, duty, site conditions and future load also count. A load list gets you a better recommendation than a single number.
Can it start automatically when the grid fails?
Yes, with an auto-start controller and transfer equipment specified together. Mention it in the first enquiry.
Send the load, get a named engine and datasheet
Include your kW or kVA, largest motor and starting method, prime or standby duty, voltage and frequency, site altitude and temperature, housing type and destination country. We will reply with a recommended model, its datasheet and an itemized quotation.
