What Are The Common Mistakes of Volvo Generator Sets?

Aug. 04, 2023

Today we will give you a brief introduction about the common wrong operations of Volvo generator sets. What else you need to know, welcome to visit our website.

350kw 437.5kva Volvo Diesel Generator Set

Diesel engine runs when the oil is insufficient: At this time, insufficient oil supply will cause insufficient oil supply on the surface of each friction pair, resulting in abnormal wear or burns. For this reason, before the Volvo generator set starts and during the operation of the diesel engine, it is necessary to ensure sufficient oil to prevent cylinder pulling and tile burning failures caused by lack of oil.

Sudden shutdown under load or immediately after the load is suddenly unloaded: After the Volvo generator set is turned off, the circulation of the cooling water stops, and the heat dissipation capacity is drastically reduced. Cracks occur, or the piston is over-expanded and stuck in the cylinder liner. On the other hand, if the Volvo generator set is shut down without cooling down at idle speed, the friction surface will not contain enough oil. When the diesel engine starts again, it will aggravate wear due to poor lubrication. Therefore, the Volvo generator set should be unloaded before stalling, and gradually reduce the speed and run it for a few minutes without load.

After a cold start, the engine is operated under load without warming up: When the Volvo generator set is started in a cold engine, due to the high oil viscosity and poor fluidity, the oil pump is insufficiently supplied, and the friction surface of the machine is lack of oil and poor lubrication, causing rapid wear and even tension. Failure of cylinder, burning tile, etc. Therefore, the diesel engine should run at idling speed after cooling and start to heat up, and then run with load when the standby oil temperature reaches 40℃ or more; the machine should start with low gear and drive for a certain mileage in each gear in sequence until the oil temperature is normal and the fuel supply is sufficient. After that, it can be switched to normal driving.

The diesel engine blasts the throttle after a cold start: If the throttle is blasted, the speed of the Volvo generator set will rise sharply, which will cause some friction surfaces on the engine to be severely worn due to dry friction. In addition, the piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft receive large changes when the throttle is hit, causing severe impacts and easily damaging parts.

Running under the condition of insufficient cooling water or excessively high cooling water and oil temperature: Insufficient cooling water for Volvo generator sets will reduce its cooling effect. Diesel engines are overheated due to ineffective cooling, and the oil temperature of cooling water and oil is too high. It can also cause the diesel engine to overheat. At this time, the main heat load of Volvo generator set cylinder head, cylinder liner, piston assembly and valve, etc., its mechanical properties such as strength and toughness drop sharply, which increases the deformation of the parts, reduces the matching gap between the parts, and accelerates the wear of the parts. , In severe cases, cracks and malfunctions of mechanical parts jamming may occur.
