The supercharging method in which the turbocharger (compressor) of the diesel generator set is directly driven by the diesel engine is called a mechanical supercharging system. It is driven by the crankshaft of the diesel generator set diesel engine to rotate the supercharger through gears, belts or chains and other transmission devices. Superchargers usually use centrifugal compressors or Roots compressors. After the air is compressed to increase its pressure, it is sent to the cylinder.
Since the power consumed by the compressor of the mechanical supercharging system of the diesel generator set is provided by the crankshaft, when the supercharging pressure is high, the driving power consumed will also be large, which will reduce the mechanical efficiency of the whole machine. Therefore, the mechanical supercharging system of diesel generator sets is usually only suitable for low-pressure low-power diesel generator sets with a boost pressure not exceeding 160-170kPa.
Of course, the supercharging method of the diesel generator set supercharging system not only uses the mechanical supercharging system, the exhaust gas turbocharging system and the compound supercharging system to increase the air pressure of the cylinder, but also uses the gas power in the intake and exhaust pipes. The inertial supercharging system that improves the efficiency of cylinder charging and the air wave supercharger that uses the pressure exchange of intake and exhaust to increase the air pressure of the cylinder.
