The Reasons Why The High Water Temperature of Diesel Generators

Jul. 13, 2022

Diesel generator water temperature is too high is a very common fault. When the water temperature is too high, the piston will be stuck, the cylinder will be pulled and other faults, and the viscosity of the lubricating oil will also decrease, which will affect the power performance of the diesel generator. If you want to control the high water temperature, you must use it within the allowable value. Below, Starlight Power Generation Equipment introduces several reasons for the high water temperature of diesel generators.

1. Blockage of water radiator

The water radiator contains blocking substances, or is inverted, which will cause the water temperature to rise and prevent the heat from dissipating. If the surface of the water radiator is mixed with oil, the sludge mixture of oil and dust will make it more difficult for heat to escape. It should be carefully dialed back to the original position with a thinner steel sheet. Then clean the heat dissipation with a water gun. If it is cleaned with hot water and cleaning liquid, the effect will be better.

2. Improper coolant

If the coolant is not selected properly, or is insufficient, it will affect its cooling performance. The working temperature of diesel generators is very high, and if the coolant is not appropriate or insufficient, it will cause the temperature to rise rapidly. It is necessary to add coolant in time or select a suitable coolant.

3. Cooling water pump failure

After the failure of the cooling water pump, the flow rate of the cooling liquid is small, and the scale deposits in the water pump are large, which reduces the heat dissipation performance of the diesel generator and causes the temperature of the diesel oil to rise.

4. Overload operation

When the diesel generator is overloaded, the fuel supply will increase, and the heat will continue to rise, exceeding the heat dissipation capacity of the diesel generator. At the same time, it will also increase the temperature of the coolant, resulting in the occurrence of black smoke, noise and other faults in the diesel generator.

5. Thermostat failure

When the thermostat is turned on at about 85°C, it means that the thermostat is in good working condition, and it will be fully opened at 105°C. Its main function is to be able to adjust the size and circulation of the cooling system. The thermostat should be properly inspected. When inspecting, the thermostat should be disassembled and then suspended in a container with warm water. Then put in a thermometer, slowly heat it from the bottom, and check the working state of the thermostat. If it does not reach 85 °C to open or 105 °C to fully open, it means that the thermostat has failed, and the thermostat needs to be replaced.

In addition, there are also problems such as incorrect indication of the temperature gauge or warning light, damage to the cylinder head gasket, improper fuel injection time, etc., which lead to the problem of excessively high water temperature in the diesel generator. When found, it should be resolved in time. Otherwise it will cause some damage to the diesel generator.
