Performance of Yuchai Diesel Generators After Turbocharging

Dec. 12, 2025

After turbocharging, Yuchai diesel generators experience increased load and thermal load, necessitating the strengthening of their components. Numerous parameters are also adjusted to enhance the performance and reduce pollution of the diesel generator. The main changes are as follows:

Yuchai generator

1.The compression ratio is appropriately reduced. This is to prevent excessively high burst pressure after turbocharging, thereby reducing mechanical and thermal loads.

2.The fuel supply is appropriately increased. As the intake air volume increases after turbocharging, more fuel can be supplied for combustion, thus requiring an increase in fuel supply to improve work efficiency.

3.The fuel injection advance angle is appropriately decreased. After turbocharging, the pressure and temperature at the end of compression increase, shortening the fuel ignition delay period. Therefore, the fuel injection advance angle should be appropriately reduced.

4.The fuel injection pressure is increased to adapt to the increased gas pressure in the cylinder, and the diameter of the injector nozzle holes is also enlarged to meet the need for increased fuel supply.

5.The overlap angle of the intake and exhaust valves is increased, and the valve clearance is also enlarged. To improve the scavenging effect of the turbocharged engine and increase the air charging volume of the generator set, the angles of early opening and late closing of the intake and exhaust valves are increased, resulting in an increase in the overlap angle. After turbocharging, the operating temperature of valve components rises, leading to greater expansion, so the valve clearance is correspondingly increased.

6.The flow area of the intake and exhaust systems is increased, and their structural shapes are adjusted to meet the requirements of turbocharging. The lubrication and cooling systems also undergo necessary modifications after strengthening.

Of course, in addition to the above obvious changes after diesel engine turbocharging, there are also some drawbacks, mainly manifested in the following two aspects:

1.Increased mechanical load

After turbocharging, both the compression pressure and burst pressure increase, leading to greater load on components and increased wear. Therefore, the burst pressure after turbocharging should be controlled, and the structure or material of main stressed components should be strengthened.

2.Increased thermal load

Due to the increase in intake air volume and fuel injection quantity after turbocharging, the total combustion energy increases, resulting in a higher thermal load on the diesel engine. At the same time, the temperature of the compressed air entering the turbocharged diesel engine cylinder increases, leading to higher maximum combustion temperature and average cycle temperature. Moreover, the increased density of the working medium enhances heat transfer from the working medium to the wall surfaces. All these factors result in increased thermal load on components such as the piston group, cylinder, and exhaust valves, reducing material strength.
