Oil Change Guidelines for New Weichai Diesel Generators

In the machinery manufacturing industry, machines typically undergo a running-in period after production. With advancements in manufacturing processes and improved part surface finish, current practices usually involve startup testing and load testing before leaving the factory.

However, relatively more debris is still generated from part surfaces during the initial operation of new machines. This debris enters the engine oil, and some gets trapped in the oil filter. Therefore, Dingbo Power generally recommends advancing the first maintenance interval compared to regular operation intervals. Extending oil and filter change intervals can reduce engine life due to corrosion, carbon buildup, wear, and other factors.

During the running-in period of new Weichai diesel generators, impurities inevitably enter the oil pan, causing physical or chemical changes in the oil and oil filter. In addition to fuel, diesel generators require lubricating oil (commonly known as engine oil) for normal operation. The functions of engine oil in Weichai diesel generators include lubrication, cooling, cleaning, sealing, rust prevention, and cushioning. Given the critical importance of engine oil for diesel generators, proper usage must be emphasized. Select engine oil according to the diesel engine's operation manual, which specifies the appropriate quality grade and viscosity grade under different conditions that should be strictly followed.

Do not mistakenly believe that a higher viscosity oil is better. Some people always think using higher viscosity oil is safer, but in reality, within the range permitted by the operation manual, using lower viscosity oil can reduce mechanical friction and wear, while providing better fuel efficiency, cooling, and cleaning effects.

New Weichai diesel generators require an oil change after 50 hours of use. It is important to note that different brands and power ratings of diesel generators use different oils. Yuchai generators have specific oils, Cummins generators have specific oils, and Weichai generators have specific oils; oils from different brands cannot be mixed. Generally, Dingbo Power recommends changing the oil after the first 50 hours of operation for new engines, as well as 50 hours after medium or major overhauls. Oil change intervals typically coincide with oil filter replacement, usually every 250 hours or one month. When using Class 2 oil, the oil change interval can be extended to 400 hours, but the oil filter must still be replaced.
