1. Properties of materials and oils

In the design and manufacturing process, materials should be correctly selected according to the working nature and characteristics of diesel generator parts. Improper selection of materials, materials that do not meet the requirements and the selection of inappropriate substitutes are the main reasons for the wear, corrosion, deformation, cracking and aging of parts. The properties of various materials and oils used in the unit can be summarized into three aspects: physical properties, chemical properties and mechanical properties. Many failures of the unit are due to the influence of external factors, which are the result of these properties. If the metal material is subjected to excessive force, it will deform and oxidize under the action of high temperature; the non-metallic material will age, and the acidic substances contained in the oil will corrode the metal and will also deteriorate the oil.

2. Structural characteristics of the parts

Each part of the unit has its own characteristics in terms of structure. At work, external factors often act through these characteristics, causing the related parts to fail. For example, due to the structural characteristics of the engine water jacket itself, under the action of high temperature, the cooling water forms scale on the outer wall of the cylinder liner, which affects the cooling effect of the cylinder liner.

3. The working characteristics of the machine parts

Wear between parts that are in direct contact and have relative motion due to friction. For example, the piston ring of the diesel engine of the diesel generator set is in direct contact with the cylinder. During the working process, the piston ring performs a high-speed reciprocating linear motion in the cylinder, which causes the cylinder to wear. Parts with severe temperature changes during operation will deform and crack due to thermal stress. For example, in the working process of the diesel engine, the internal stress of the cylinder block and the cylinder head is redistributed due to the high tide, and a new balance is reached, resulting in the warping deformation of the cylinder head plane.
