Inspection and Maintenance Method of Diesel Generator Set Thermostat

In the long-term operation of diesel generator sets, due to the corrosive effect of cooling water on the thermostat, or due to other reasons, the thermostat will fail and fail, and the amount of cooling water entering the radiator cannot be automatically controlled, resulting in excessive machine temperature. Generally speaking, if the thermostat cannot control the water temperature to the specified value within 10 minutes, it means that the thermostat has been damaged. Clean the thermostat of the diesel generator set and put it into a cup filled with water. At this time, it should be noted that the thermostat cannot be placed at the bottom of the cup. Put another thermometer in the beaker and gradually heat it up. Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the water when the mesh door starts to open and when the thermostat is fully open. For a good thermostat, the valve starts to open at 68-72°C; it should be fully opened at 80-83°C, and the inspection opening height of the main valve thermostat should not be lower than the specified value.

If it does not meet the above requirements, it means that the thermostat of the diesel generator set has failed, and the cause should be found out and replaced or repaired. The initial opening temperature and full opening temperature of the main valve of the thermostat used by each model are specified when they leave the factory. Although the values are not exactly equal, they are generally similar.

If the specified temperature for the initial opening and full opening of the main valve of the diesel generator set thermostat cannot be found, the full opening temperature value can be determined according to the initial opening temperature during measurement. For example, the initial opening temperature of the main valve of a thermostat of a machine is 65.5 °C, then its fully open temperature should be 82.5 °C. Because the difference between the main valve fully open and the initial opening temperature is generally 13 ~ 17 ℃. If the opening temperature of the main valve of various thermostats exceeds or is lower than 17°C than the specified value, it should be replaced with a new one. Thermostat gaskets, if damaged, should be replaced with new ones. If the foldable expansion cylinder of the thermostat is cracked or corroded, it should be replaced. However, in the absence of accessories, the thermostat that leaks due to collisions, cracks, and leaks can be repaired.

The repair method is: first repair the leakage with tin welding, then inject 20cm3 of alcohol or ether with a syringe above the expansion cylinder, then put the thermostat into hot water, remove the air after the alcohol expands, and then use Solder will seal the injection place firmly, and the action should be fast when applying the solder to prevent the alcohol from evaporating.
