When the fuel supply timing is too early, the 150kW diesel generator set emits a rhythmic, crisp metallic "clang-clang" knocking sound in the cylinder. It experiences difficulty starting, rough engine operation, insufficient power, white exhaust smoke with a "raw fuel" odor, and tends to stall at low speeds. When fuel injection timing is too late, the generator set struggles to start; after starting, a dull, indistinct knocking sound occurs in the cylinder. The engine speed fails to increase with throttle input, accompanied by high engine temperature, reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and black exhaust smoke.
In such cases, promptly inspect the unit: Remove the cylinder’s high-pressure fuel line, rotate the crankshaft, and observe the oil level in the fuel outlet valve seat of the injection pump. At the moment the oil level just fluctuates, check if the fuel injection advance angle matches specifications using the timing marks on the flywheel and flywheel housing. If not, readjust. If necessary, inspect each cylinder individually.
Uneven fuel supply among cylinders directly affects engine stability. The injection pump can be removed and adjusted on a test bench. However, if a test bench is unavailable and uneven fuel supply must be checked, a rough inspection of the suspected cylinder’s fuel supply can be performed as follows:
Inspection and Adjustment Method for Uneven Fuel Supply in 150kW Diesel Generator Sets
① Prepare two glass measuring cylinders (or two identical small bottles as alternatives).
② Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line of the cylinder suspected of excessive (or insufficient) fuel supply from the injector.
③ Disconnect the high-pressure fuel line of a normally functioning cylinder from its injector.
④ Insert the ends of the two fuel lines into the measuring cylinders (or bottles).
⑤ Use the starter motor to crank the engine, causing the injection pump to deliver fuel.
⑥ Once a measurable amount of diesel collects, place the cylinders on a level surface to compare volumes (or weigh the bottles). Adjust by altering the position of the fork (or gear ring) on the injection pump’s fuel control rod (rack). For P-type pumps, adjust by rotating the flange sleeve.
Guangxi generator manufacturer Dingbo Power has analyzed fuel supply faults in 150kW diesel generator sets. If operators observe the above symptoms, promptly verify if incorrect fuel supply timing is the cause and consult professional technical personnel for repairs.
