In China, diesel generator sets are typically transported by road. For container-type generator sets, the following precautions must be taken to prevent accidental damage during transportation:

1. Transportation Vehicle Requirements

Ensure the carrying capacity of the transport vehicle is at least 1.2 times the total weight of the generator set and its accessories.

2. Packaging and Protection

To shield the container-type generator set from wind, rain, and sunlight, use secure packaging such as wooden crates lined with waterproof cloth.

3. Secure Fixation

Firmly fasten the generator set to the vehicle compartment to prevent component loosening or damage caused by bumpy (bumping) and vibration during transit.

Prohibition: No people or objects are allowed on top of the generator set while it is being transported, as this may cause structural stress and damage.

4. Loading and Unloading Operations

Use a forklift or lifting equipment for loading/unloading. Exercise caution to avoid tipping or dropping the generator set, which could result in breakage.

Maintain balance during lifting: The lifting points should be close to the generator set’s center of gravity (not the geometric center of its external dimensions) to prevent swinging or imbalance that may lead to falling.

Forklift Method:

Use a forklift to push or pull the generator set from its base. If pushing, place wooden boards or flat-surfaced objects between the forklift tines and the base to avoid damaging the frame and distribute weight evenly.

Ensure the forklift’s tine load capacity is 120–130% greater than the generator set’s weight.
