Diesel generator set vibration mainly occurs in three situations: electromagnetic causes, mechanical causes, and electromechanical mixed causes.
Electromagnetic Causes:
1.Power Supply Issues: Three-phase voltage imbalance, three-phase motor operation under phase loss.
2.Stator Problems: Stator core deformation (elliptical, eccentric, loose); stator winding faults including disconnection, ground breakdown, inter-turn short circuit, wiring errors, and three-phase current imbalance.
3.Rotor Malfunctions: Rotor core deformation (elliptical, eccentric, loose); rotor cage bars and end rings welding failure, rotor cage bar breakage, winding errors, poor brush contact, etc.
Mechanical Causes:
1.Motor Itself: Rotor imbalance, bent shaft, slip ring deformation, uneven air gap between stator and rotor, misaligned magnetic centers of stator and rotor, bearing failures, poor foundation installation, insufficient mechanical strength, resonance, loose anchor bolts, damaged motor fans.
2.Coupling Matching: Damaged couplings, poor coupling connections, inaccurate coupling alignment, unbalanced load machinery, system resonance, etc.
Generator Mixed Causes:
1.Generator vibration is often caused by uneven air gap leading to unilateral electromagnetic pull, which further increases the air gap. This electromechanical interaction manifests as motor vibration.
2.Generator axial movement caused by rotor gravity, installation level issues, or misaligned magnetic centers generates electromagnetic pull, increasing motor vibration. In severe cases, shaft wear occurs at the bearing root, causing rapid temperature rise of the bearing.

1.Electrical Fault Inspection: First, measure stator three-phase DC resistance balance. Imbalance indicates welding defects in stator connections; disconnect windings for phase-by-phase inspection. Check for inter-turn short circuits through visible insulation scorching or instrument testing. Rewind windings upon confirmation of inter-turn short circuits.
2.Mechanical Fault Inspection: Check air gap uniformity and readjust if exceeding standards. Inspect bearings, measure clearance, and replace i funqualified. Repair loose/deformed iron cores with epoxy resin adhesive. Straighten bent shafts through welding/reprocessing or direct straightening, followed by rotor balancing tests.
3.Connection System Inspection: If load machinery and motor itself check normal, inspect motor foundation levelness, inclination, strength, alignment accuracy, coupling condition, and shaft extension deflection compliance.
