The smoke color of a diesel generator set refers to the color of the exhaust gas emitted from the exhaust pipe during operation. Generally, when the operating temperature is normal, the exhaust smoke should be colorless or light gray. The exhaust smoke color of a diesel engine may be darker during idling, and it may also be darker under high-speed and high-load conditions. It is important to observe the normal exhaust smoke color in order to judge and analyze abnormal exhaust smoke colors. Different diesel generator manufacturers have different requirements for exhaust pipe mufflers and flues:
1.It must be connected to the unit's exhaust outlet through a bellows to absorb thermal expansion, displacement, and vibration.
2.When the muffler is placed in the engine room, it can be supported from the ground according to its size and weight.
3.In the part where the smoke pipe changes direction, it is recommended to install expansion joints to offset the thermal expansion of the pipeline when the unit is running.
4.The inner bend radius of a 90-degree elbow should be three times the pipe diameter.
5.The first-stage muffler should be as close to the unit as possible.
6.When the pipeline is long, it is recommended to install a rear-stage muffler at the end.
7.The exhaust terminal outlet should not directly face flammable substances or buildings.
8.The unit's exhaust outlet must not bear heavy pressure, and all rigid pipelines should be supported and fixed by means of buildings or steel structures.
9.All exhaust pipelines should be well supported and fixed.
10.Unsupported mufflers cannot be installed at the unit's exhaust manifold or unit turbocharger outlet.
11.A flexible connection should be installed between the smoke pipe and the unit to absorb the thermal expansion and contraction of the pipeline, the displacement and vibration of the unit, and reduce the heavy pressure of the smoke pipe on the unit and between smoke pipes; the flexible connection should be as close as possible to the unit's exhaust outlet turbocharger or exhaust manifold.
12.The exhaust terminal should be equipped with a rain cap, covering, and other rainproof designs to prevent rain and snow from entering. A condensate collector and drain valve should be installed on the part of the smoke pipe close to the unit.
13.It is recommended that the unit should not share an exhaust pipe with stoves, boilers, or other equipment. The accumulation of carbon dust and condensates emitted by operating equipment can cause damage to non-operating units, and passively driven turbochargers will suffer bearing failures due to lack of lubrication.
The most effective and common method currently used on diesel engines is to improve and optimize the exhaust muffler. Designing a muffler with good sound attenuation performance is very important for reducing the overall noise of the diesel engine.
