Working Principle of Generator Full Program Governor

Jan. 04, 2023

Today we are going to introduce the working principle of the generator full program governor.

Starting state: before starting the generator, first place the governor handle at the idle position. At this time, the speed regulating spring inside the governor pulls the speed regulating lever and gear rod, and makes the fuel volume regulating gear rod inside the fuel injection pump pull the plunger of each slave cylinder to the position of fuel supply.

After the generator is started, the internal camshaft of the fuel injection pump drives the flying iron to rotate through the governor gear. With the increase of generator speed, the centrifugal force of flying iron increases gradually. When the centrifugal force is greater than the spring force, the flying iron will open and push the telescopic shaft, and the telescopic shaft will push the speed regulating lever and pull rod, so that the fuel injection pump oil volume regulating gear rod will move in the direction of decreasing oil supply until the centrifugal force of the flying iron is balanced with the spring force. At this time, the gear rod maintains a certain oil supply position and makes the generator run stably at a certain speed.

Acceleration or deceleration state: turn the governor fine adjustment handwheel clockwise, and the speed of the generator increases. At this time, the elastic force of the speed regulating spring is greater than the centrifugal force of the flying iron. The speed regulating lever drives the oil volume regulating gear rod inside the fuel injection pump to move in the direction of increasing oil supply. With the increase of generator speed, the centrifugal force of flying iron increases.

When the centrifugal force of the flying iron and the elastic force of the speed regulating spring reach balance, the generator will work stably at the new speed. On the contrary, turn the fine adjusting hand wheel of the governor counterclockwise, and the speed of the generator decreases. At this time, the centrifugal force of the flying iron and the elasticity of the speed regulating spring drive the speed regulating lever to drive the oil volume regulating gear rod inside the fuel injection pump to move in the direction of decreasing oil supply. With the decrease of the generator speed, the centrifugal force of the flying iron decreases. When the centrifugal force of the flying iron and the elastic force of the speed regulating spring reach a new balance, the generator will work stably at the reduced speed.

State when the load changes: When the external load of the generator changes, the speed also changes. When the centrifugal force of flying iron changes, the original equilibrium state also changes. Therefore, the fuel delivery of the fuel injection pump of the generator will also change with the load. When the external load is constant, the generator will operate stably at a constant load speed.

Low speed state: when the generator operates at low speed, the speed regulating lever is pressed against the pin shaft of the low speed stabilizer, and the spring in the stabilizer exerts additional force on the speed regulating lever through the pin shaft, thus limiting the swing of the lever to ensure the stability at low speed.
