Types of Volvo Diesel Generator Set Superchargers

Aug. 15, 2023

The exhaust gas turbocharger used in Volvo diesel generator sets is a common equipment for diesel generator sets. It mainly uses the exhaust gas energy discharged from the unit to drive the supercharging, and compresses the air and sends it into the cylinder. A supercharging method. According to the direction of airflow entering the turbine, it can be divided into two types: axial flow and radial flow. Next, Dingbo Power Equipment will briefly introduce the following two types of superchargers and their principles for users and friends.

We can judge the type of Volvo diesel generator set exhaust turbocharger by the direction of airflow entering the turbine:

(1) Radial turbocharger

Radial turbochargers are mainly composed of turbine casings. It consists of nozzle ring, turbine and rotor shaft. When the radial turbocharger works, the exhaust gas discharged from the diesel generator set flows along the vertical plane (ie the radial direction) of the axis of the rotor shaft of the supercharger after entering the turbine shell of the supercharger. This is because when the airflow passes through the nozzle, a part of the pressure energy and thermal energy is converted into kinetic energy to obtain a high-speed airflow. The high-speed airflow from the nozzle ring flows into the impeller in a certain direction, and is forced to change the flow direction along the curved channel in the impeller. Under the action of centrifugal force, the airflow particles are thrown to the concave surface of the blade, the pressure increases and the relative velocity decreases; the convex surface of the blade is relatively The speed increases and the pressure decreases. Therefore, the resultant force of the airflow (ie, the pressure difference) acting on the concave and convex surfaces of the blades forms a moment on the turbine shaft that pushes the blades to rotate, so the exhaust gas from the impeller is discharged along the shaft through the center of the turbine. Medium-sized diesel generator sets mostly use radial turbochargers.

(2) Axial turbocharger

When the axial flow turbocharger works, after the exhaust gas discharged from the diesel generator set enters the turbine shell of the supercharger, the airflow flows along the axial direction of the rotor shaft of the supercharger, so it is called axial flow. This form of supercharger is mostly used in the engines of large diesel generator sets.

Volvo diesel generator set adopts exhaust gas turbocharging device, which can meet the requirements of highland areas. It has the characteristics of small size, low fuel consumption, high precision and long service life. Its high-quality product quality and performance have always had a good reputation and are favored by global diesel generator set manufacturers.
