Stator Structure of Brushless Rotating Pole Synchronous Generator

The armature of the brushless rotating pole synchronous generator refers to the stator core and stator winding, which generate induced electromotive force and induced current. The stator consists of the frame, stator core, and stator winding.

①The generator frame is divided into cast iron casting and steel plate welding types. Its function is to fix the armature and support the rotor together with the front and rear end covers. The inner wall of the frame is generally fixed with ribs to secure the armature, and the frame is equipped with screw holes, end covers, and feet for matching. There is a power outlet box on the right side or upper part of the frame to lead out AC power, which contains a terminal board. Moreover, the frame outlet box is equipped with an excitation regulator for adjusting the excitation voltage.

 

② Stator Core

The stator core is part of the generator's magnetic circuit. To reduce eddy current loss and hysteresis loss caused by the rotating magnetic field in the stator core, the stator core is composed of 0.5mm thick magnetic silicon steel sheets with insulating paint coated on both sides. The stator core is often made by stacking fan-shaped silicon steel sheets, which can improve the utilization rate of core materials. To increase the heat dissipation area, the iron core of large-capacity generators is usually provided with multiple ventilation slots along the axial length.

 

③ Stator Winding

The stator winding is the circuit of the generator stator. The stator winding is composed of coils, which are wound with copper wires surrounded by high-strength polyester paint and connected in the core slots in a certain way. The specifications of the conductors, the number of turns of the coils, and the number of parallel circuits are determined by the design. The wire windings adopt the forms of double layer, single layer chain, and single layer. The stator winding is embedded in the iron core slot, and it is necessary to set up ground insulation, interlayer insulation, and phase insulation to avoid short-circuit faults during generator operation. The main insulating material is polyester film non-woven fabric composite foil, and the slot insulation usually uses mica tape.

Due to the alternating electromagnetic force in the iron core slot and the electric force between the parallel wires, the stator coil can move or vibrate, so the coil must be firm. Generally, glass cloth sheets are used as slot wedges to compress the coils in the slot, and glass fiber tapes are used to bind the two ends tightly. Then the entire armature is insulated to make the armature a solid whole.
