Flywheel Play: Push/pull the flywheel axially/longitudinally; no excessive clearance should be felt.

Fuel Injection: With the throttle in the "on" position and decompression engaged, rapid flywheel rotation should produce a clear, crisp injection sound, indicating a functional fuel system.

4. Dynamic Inspection

Starting Performance: Fill with diesel, oil, and coolant. Hand-crank starting should succeed ≥75% of the time.

Throttle Response: Accelerate/decelerate smoothly with no lag. At minimum idle speed (<300 RPM), the engine should run steadily with no speed fluctuations ("hunting").

Exhaust Smoke: Should be light gray or colorless at all speeds; black, blue, or white smoke indicates problems.

Engine Sound: Should be steady, rhythmic, and free of metallic knocking or unusual noises.

Leakage Check: After running, inspect for oil, air, or water leaks at pipe joints, oil seals, gaskets, and drain valves.
