For both naturally aspirated and supercharged diesel generators, it is emphasized that the low-load/no-load running time should be minimized, and the minimum load should not be lower than 25% to 30% of the rated power of the unit. Both too small and too large loads on diesel generator sets are not acceptable, as they will cause harm to the diesel generator sets. Long-term full-load operation of the generator set causes considerable damage to components such as the cylinder crankshaft, reducing the service life of the generator set. When a diesel generator operates under a light load for a long time, diesel combustion is insufficient, and over time, it causes severe carbon deposition in the generator set, which is also quite harmful to the generator set.
The optimal load for a diesel generator set is 80% of its rated output power. This ensures the generator set operates without overloading and avoids long-term low-load operation, thereby extending the service life of the diesel generator set.
If a diesel generator set operates for a long time below 25% of its rated power, the following faults will occur:
1.Poor sealing between the piston and cylinder liner, causing oil to flee the combustion chamber for combustion, resulting in blue smoke from the exhaust, which pollutes the air and the environment.
2.For supercharged diesel engines, due to low load and no load, the boost pressure is low. This easily leads to a decrease in the sealing effect of the supercharger oil seal (non-contact type), causing oil to flee the boost chamber and enter the cylinder along with the intake air.
3.Part of the oil that flee the cylinder participates in combustion, and part of the oil cannot be completely burned, forming carbon deposits on the valves, intake ports, piston crowns, piston rings, etc. Another part is discharged with the exhaust gas. In this way, oil will gradually accumulate in the cylinder liner exhaust passage, which will also form carbon deposits.
4.When the oil in the supercharger's boost chamber accumulates to a certain extent, it will leak from the joint surface of the supercharger.
