1 Causes of Local Overheating in Diesel Generators

Insufficient cooling water is one of the causes of local overheating of the generator. Because too many impurities are deposited in the water channels of the generator body and cylinder head, the water circulation will be blocked and heat dissipation will be difficult, resulting in local overheating.

If the unit burns too much engine oil and causes too much carbon deposition in the engine, it will also lead to poor heat dissipation and local overheating.

The fuel supply timing should not be too late, otherwise it will also cause local overheating of the diesel generator.

2 Solutions for Local Overheating of Generator Sets

Check the contact condition of the dynamic and static contacts of the electric brake knife regularly. If loose compression springs or single contact fingers parallel to other contact fingers are found, they need to be handled immediately.

During the maintenance of new and old machines, attention should be paid to checking whether the stator core is compressed and whether the tooth pressure fingers are deflected, especially the teeth at both ends. If any loosening is found, it should be handled before putting into operation. When handing over or suspecting the iron core insulation, the iron loss test should be carried out.

The connection parts of the generator outlet and neutral point lead should be firm. During the operation of the unit, infrared thermal imaging temperature measurement checks should be carried out regularly on the split-phase cables from the excitation transformer to the static excitation device, the cables from the static excitation device to the rotor slip ring, and the rotor slip ring.

During manufacturing, transportation, installation and maintenance, attention should be paid to preventing tiny foreign objects such as welding slag or metal chips from falling into the ventilation slots of the stator core.

When the generator insulation overheating alarm is issued, the unit should be shut down for defect elimination and the cause of the fault should be analyzed.
