The excitation current shall not be reduced too small, and measures shall be taken to prevent loss of excitation.


The excitation system not only plays a very important role in the operation of the generator set, but also is the weakest part and the highest failure rate of the generator set structurally. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of power generation, it is necessary to pay enough attention to the excitation system and conduct necessary inspection after shutdown and before startup, especially for the brush device of the coaxial exciter, and to check the technical conditions of the brush, brush holder and commutator surface, Purging shall also be carried out if necessary; During operation, it is necessary to check whether the electric brush is burning and jumping; Strengthening the inspection, repair and maintenance of the excitation system is one of the important means to prevent the generator unit from failure.


Another feature of the standby generator set is that it "raises soldiers for thousands of days and uses them for one day". Therefore, when it is not in use, it is likely to get damp. The most active preventive measure is to ask the manufacturer to conduct moisture-proof treatment on the winding insulation. If the internal temperature of the generator set can be 5-10C higher than the ambient temperature on the site, it is an effective moisture-proof method. If it is damp and the insulation is unqualified, it is not allowed to apply voltage to the motor and it must be dried first, It is also a common method to implement the regular commissioning system of generator units to ensure that the units are in good condition.
