How To Clean The Diesel Generator Before And After Disassembly

Nov. 30, 2021

In the process of maintenance of diesel generators and internal combustion engines, it is very important to do a good job in the maintenance work. Cleaning methods and cleaning quality have an important impact on the accuracy, maintenance quality, maintenance cost, and service life of the evaluation unit components. The cleaning of diesel generator engine components mainly includes the elimination of oil, scale, carbon deposits, rust layer, and old paint layer. For any parts in contact with various oils, stains must be cleaned up after disassembly. Petroleum can be divided into two categories: saponified oils, namely animal oils, vegetable oils and other oils that can interact with strong alkalis to produce saponification, the other is non-saponifiable oils, which cannot be combined with various mineral oils, lubricating oils, petrolatum, paraffin and other mineral. Both are insoluble in water, but can be dissolved in organic solvents. This article, by the editor of Starlight Power, will introduce you to the cleaning methods before and after disassembly of the diesel generator.

Cleaning work before disassembly and assembly of diesel generator:

According to the material, precision, nature of the stains of the unit components and the cleanliness requirements of each process, different elimination methods must be adopted, and appropriate equipment, knives, processes and cleaning media must be selected to achieve a good cleaning effect.

Cleaning before disassembly mainly refers to external cleaning before disassembly. The external cleaning is to eliminate a large amount of dust, stains, sediments and other stains accumulated outside the mechanical equipment, so as to facilitate disassembly, and prevent dust, mud and other stains from entering the maintenance site. External cleaning generally uses tap water to rinse, that is, connect tap water to the cleaning site with a tap, wash the oil with water, then scrape the oil with a thick layer, and wash with high-pressure water, that is, use 1-10MPa high-pressure water to wash. For dense and thick layers of dirt, appropriate chemical cleaning agents can be added to increase the spray pressure and water temperature.

Common external cleaning equipment includes: single-gun jet cleaning machine, which relies on the high-pressure continuous jet flusher or the chemical effect of the cleaning agent to eliminate stains. There are two types of multi-port jet cleaning machines: door frame movement and tunnel fixing. The installation location and number of nozzles vary according to the purpose of the equipment.

Cleaning work after dismantling diesel generators: mainly use chemical and electrochemical methods to remove these oils. The most common cleaning agents are organic solvents, alkaline solutions and chemical cleaning fluids. There are manual methods and mechanical methods for cleaning.

1. Cleaning fluid.

(1) Kerosene, light diesel, gasoline, alcohol and trichloroethylene are common in organic solvents. Its main feature is that it dissolves stains, does not damage metals, can dissolve various oils, does not require heating, is easy to use, and has a better cleaning effect. However, organic solvents are mostly flammable materials and expensive. They are mainly used for small equipment and decentralized maintenance operations.

(2) The alkaline solvent is an alkaline solution or an alkaline salt aqueous solution. The lye is used to chemically react with the saponified oil on the surface of the part to produce glycerin that is easily soluble in water and glycerin that is not easy to float on the surface of the part, and then rinse with hot water, which can easily eliminate grease. The emulsifier should be added to the cleaning solution to separate the stain from the surface of the part after emulsification. Commonly used emulsifiers are soap, water glass (water glass), gum and so on. Different cleaning agents should be used for parts of various materials. Alkaline solutions have varying degrees of corrosion to metals, especially to aluminum.

Usually need to be heated to 80~90℃ and cleaned with alkaline solution. After removing the stains, wash with hot water to remove the remaining alkaline solution to prevent corrosion of the parts. The application of lye cleaning is more extensive.

Chemical cleaning fluid is a water-based metal cleaning agent based on surfactants. Because the surface active substance reduces the interfacial tension, it has a strong decontamination ability. This product is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable, non-explosive, non-polluting, anti-rust, and inexpensive.

2. Cleaning method.

(1) Scrub the parts in the container that has been installed with diesel oil, kerosene or other cleaning fluids, scrub with cotton yarn or brush. This method is simple and easy to implement, the equipment is simple, but the efficiency is low, and it is suitable for single piece production in small and medium batches. Gasoline is generally not suitable for use, because it has fat-soluble properties, can damage the human body, and is easy to cause fire.

(2) Put the prepared solution and the cleaned parts together, and weld a suitable size cleaning pool with steel plates. There is a heating furnace in the lower part of the pool. When it is heated to 80~90℃, it can be steamed.

(3) Spray the cleaning fluid with a certain pressure and temperature on the surface of the parts to eliminate stains. This method has good cleaning effect and high efficiency, but the equipment is more complicated, and the requirements for the shape of the parts are not high. There is a lot of grease on the surface.

(4) Vibration cleaning is to place the cleaned parts on the cleaning basket or cleaning rack of the vibrating washer, soak in the cleaning fluid, and use the chemical effect of the cleaning fluid to remove stains by imitating the manual cleaning action by virtue of the vibration of the washer.

Ultrasonic cleaning relies on the chemical effect of the cleaning liquid and the introduction of the ultrasonic oscillation of the cleaning liquid to eliminate stains on the parts. If you want to know more details, please contact us with sales@dieselgeneratortech.com
