Lubricating Oil Replacement Guidelines
One critical aspect of diesel generator maintenance is lubricating oil replacement. The oil must be changed after the break-in period (50 hours or 3 months) and subsequently every 500 hours or 6 months. Do not mix oils of different brands or models.
Replacement Steps:
1.Preheat the unit for 10 minutes, then shut down.
2.Open the oil drain plug, drain the oil into a suitable container, and retighten the plug.
3.Inject new oil through the oil filler until it reaches the specified range on the dipstick.
First Aid for Accidental Lubricating Oil Exposure
Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and water.
Eye Contact: Immediately lift the upper eyelid and flush with running water for at least 10 minutes, or rinse with a 20% sodium bicarbonate solution. Apply boric acid ointment and seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Quickly move to a well-ventilated area, keep warm, and rest. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen; if breathing stops, perform artificial respiration and seek medical help immediately.
Safety Measures for Oil Replacement
Engineering Controls: Operate in a sealed environment with adequate ventilation.
Respiratory Protection: Generally not required, but wear a gas mask in special circumstances.
Eye Protection: Wear safety goggles if necessary.
Protective Clothing: Use standard work clothes.
Hand Protection: Wear protective gloves.
Other Precautions: Shower and change clothes after work. Maintain good hygiene habits, such as washing hands after work and before meals, and regularly cleaning work clothes.
Oil Spill Response
Evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe location; restrict access to unauthorized individuals and cut off ignition sources.
Emergency responders should wear gas masks and standard fire-protective clothing.
Plug the leak if safe to do so. Absorb the spill with sand or other non-combustible adsorbents, then collect the waste for proper disposal.
For large spills, contain the area with dikes, then collect, transfer, recycle, or dispose of the oil harmlessly.
