Development of Diesel Engine Electronic Control Technology

Three Stages of Electronic Control Technology Development for Generator Set Diesel Engines

First-generation Diesel Engine Electronic Control Fuel Injection System (Conventional Pressure Electronic Control Injection System)

Advantages: No structural modification is required, resulting in good production inheritance and facilitating the upgrading of existing diesel engines.Disadvantages: Slow system response, low control frequency, limited control freedom, insufficient control accuracy, and inability to independently control injection pressure.

 

Second-generation Diesel Engine Electronic Control Fuel Injection System (High-pressure Electronic Control Injection System)

It has changed the composition and structure of the traditional fuel supply system, mainly characterized by an electronically controlled common rail (each cylinder injector shares a high-pressure fuel pipe) injection system. It directly performs "time-pressure control" or "pressure control" on the fuel injection quantity, injection timing, injection rate, injection pattern, and injection pressure of the injector.

Features: A digital high-frequency regulation system is composed of sensors, electronic control units, high-speed solenoid valves, and related electrical/hydraulic control actuators. The fuel supply quantity and timing of the fuel injection pump are controlled by the on-off timing and duration of the solenoid valve. However, the fuel supply pressure still cannot be independently controlled.

 

Development of Diesel Engine Electronic Control Technology: Third Generation (Time-Pressure Mode)

It has basically changed the composition and structure of the traditional fuel supply system, mainly characterized by an electronically controlled common rail (each cylinder injector shares a high-pressure fuel pipe) injection system. It directly performs time-pressure control on the fuel injection quantity, injection timing, injection rate, injection pattern, and injection pressure of the injector.

The oil pressure pump does not directly control fuel injection but only supplies fuel to the common rail to maintain the required common rail pressure, and controls the injection pressure by continuously adjusting the common rail pressure.

Advantages: It can achieve high-pressure injection up to 200Mpa, the injection pressure is independent of engine speed, ideal injection patterns can be realized, and it has good injection pressure performance. The common rail injection system is a development direction of diesel engine fuel systems.
