The reactor current can be adjusted by controlling the thyristor firing angle to change the effective value of the current, thereby ensuring that the SVC voltage connected to the power grid is stabilized within a specified range and playing the role of grid reactive power compensation.
1.Characteristics and Advantages of 70kW Generator SVG
SVG uses a high-power voltage-source inverter as its core and adjusts the output voltage value and phase of the inverter to quickly absorb or generate the required reactive power, thereby achieving the purpose of fast dynamic adjustment of reactive power.
The response speed of a typical generator SVC is 20-40ms, but SVG's response speed is no more than 5ms, which can better suppress voltage fluctuations and flicker, and achieve the best compensation effect under the same compensation capacity. Moreover, the output capacity of the generator SVG is less affected by the bus voltage and has the characteristics of a current source.
This is a prominent advantage of generator SVG when used for voltage control. SVG has good low-voltage characteristics, and the output reactive current has no relation to the system voltage, so it can be regarded as a controllable constant current source with strong overload capacity. When the system voltage drops, it can still output the rated reactive current.
2.Role and Characteristics of 70kW Generator SVC
In contrast, the generator SVC has an impedance-type characteristic, and its output capacity is greatly affected by the bus voltage, and it does not have overload capacity. Therefore, the reactive power compensation capability of SVG is independent of the system voltage, while that of SVC decreases as the system voltage drops.
In terms of generator harmonic characteristics, SVC using thyristor control is easily affected by system harmonics and can generate a large amount of harmonics itself, so it is necessary to use a supporting filter bank to remove the harmonic content generated by itself.
3.Differences Between Generator SVC and SVG
SVG adopts three-level single-phase bridge technology, which can output 5-level voltage waveform per phase. It uses the carrier phase-shifted pulse modulation method, which is not only less affected by system harmonics but also can suppress system harmonics. Compared with SVC, SVG greatly reduces the harmonic content in the compensation current after adopting measures such as multi-modularization, multi-level or pulse width modulation technology.
In terms of generator rental floor space, under the same compensation capacity, the floor space of SVG is reduced by 1/2 to 2/3 compared with SVC. Since SVG uses fewer reactors and capacitors than SVC, the volume and floor space of the device are greatly reduced.
