The core equipment of a biogas power generation system includes biogas-fueled generators, electric generators, and heat recovery units. Biogas is supplied to the generator set from a storage tank after passing through a desulfurizer, driving an internal combustion engine connected to an electric generator to produce electricity. Waste heat from the generator’s cooling water and exhaust gases is recovered via heat recovery devices and reused as a heating source for biogas digesters.
Key System Components
1.Biogas Desulfurization, Pressure Regulation, and Explosion Protection
Biogas must first pass through a desulfurization unit to reduce hydrogen sulfide content, minimizing engine corrosion. A pressure regulator is installed on the intake pipeline to adjust flow and achieve optimal air-fuel ratios. Additionally, anti-backfire and explosion-proof devices are mounted on the main biogas line to prevent ignition-related hazards.
2.Intake Air Regulation System
A precise, responsive gas mixer is integrated into the intake manifold to control the air-biogas mixing ratio, ensuring efficient combustion.
3.Engine Ignition System
Biogas has a slower combustion rate compared to gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. Existing ignition systems originally designed for these fuels require modifications to enhance combustion efficiency, reduce post-combustion phenomena, and extend operational lifespan.
4.Speed Regulation System
Critical for standalone generator operation (where the unit directly powers electrical loads). Fluctuations in load from connecting or disconnecting devices necessitate a speed governor to maintain stable generator performance.
5.Waste Heat Recovery System
Heat recovery units capture thermal energy from engine cooling water and exhaust gases, improving overall energy utilization efficiency of the biogas system.
6.Grid-Connection Control System
Comprises generator voltage regulation circuits, automatic synchronization control for grid parallelism, manual parallel/disconnect controls, measurement circuits, and control systems for the gas engine and auxiliary equipment. The most economical energy usage strategy prioritizes on-site power consumption, with surplus electricity fed into the public grid. Similarly, recovered heat is first allocated to biogas digesters, then repurposed for residential or farm heating, or integrated into public heating networks.
