1. Structure and Characteristics of Air-Cooled Generator Set

The air-cooled cooling system uses air as the cooling medium, and the air-cooling system is mainly composed of heat sinks, fans, wind deflectors and guide plates. The high-speed moving air generated by the fan directly takes away the heat of high-temperature parts, so that the internal combustion engine works at the most suitable temperature. Cooling fins are arranged on the outer walls of the cylinder and cylinder head to increase the heat dissipation area, improve air utilization, and make the cooling effect more effective and uniform. The air-cooling system also has the advantages of few parts, simple structure, light overall weight, convenient use and maintenance, and good adaptability to regional environmental changes.

2. Layout of Air-Cooled Generator System

According to the arrangement of internal combustion engine cylinders, fan type and installation position, the layout of air-cooling system often has the following types:

① For single-cylinder internal combustion engines with centrifugal fans, the centrifugal fan is cast together with the flywheel, arranged at the rear end of the internal combustion engine, and driven by the crankshaft. Air is axially inhale from the air inlet and flows out from the fan volute to the cylinder for cooling.

② For in-line multi-cylinder internal combustion engines with axial fans, the axial fan is driven by the crankshaft through a V-belt, and the fan is arranged at the front end of the internal combustion engine. Air flows axially, is inhale by the fan and pressed into the air chamber composed of the wind deflector, and flows out through the splitter plate after cooling each cylinder respectively.

③ For V-type internal combustion engines with axial fans, the axial fan is arranged in the middle of the angle between the two rows of cylinders at the front end of the engine and driven by the crankshaft through a V-belt. The cooled air is discharged from the lower side of the two rows of cylinders respectively.

 

3. Methods for Adjusting Cooling Intensity of Air-Cooled Diesel Engine

① Changing the fan speed. When the heat load is low, reducing the fan speed can not only reduce the cooling intensity, but also reduce the fan noise, and also save the power consumed by the fan. It is a relatively good adjustment method, and generally uses hydraulic coupling transmission to realize the fan.

② Throttle control. Through the temperature-sensing element arranged at the fan inlet, the opening of the variable louver or throttle valve is controlled to achieve the purpose of controlling the cooling intensity of the diesel engine.
