Why Does Diesel Generator Set Emit White Smoke

Oct. 25, 2021

Diesel generator sets are widely used in production and life. In some industries with extremely high demand for electricity, the corresponding diesel generator set will have a relatively high working load, and high-load work will cause some abnormalities when the diesel generator set is in use. It is more common that the unit emits white smoke. So, what's the matter with the white smoke from the diesel generator set? Below, Starlight Power Generation Equipment will introduce the reasons in detail.

1. Insufficient pressure

(1) When the injection pressure of the fuel injector is too low, the atomization is poor, or there is oil blow-by, the exhaust gas of the diesel generator set will emit white smoke after the start of the diesel generator set. With the increase of the running time of the diesel generator set, the temperature of the body will increase. , The phenomenon of white smoke will gradually weaken or disappear. When the diesel generator set is loaded, the exhaust pipe will emit black smoke again. This failure is common for multi-cylinder engines.

(2) The injector needle valve of the unit is stuck in the open position or the injector pressure adjustment spring is broken. This leads to insufficient pressure in the fuel supply system, and atomization of the diesel used in the diesel generator set. The water vapor in the diesel will directly cause the diesel to burn and release white smoke.

2. The temperature is too low

White smoke from the exhaust pipe of a diesel generator set when it is just started or in a cold state is caused by the evaporation of oil and gas at low temperature in the cylinder of the diesel generator set. This phenomenon is especially common in winter. Because of the cold winter weather, when the diesel generator set is running, the temperature of the diesel engine and the exhaust pipe is low, and the hot water vapor condenses into water vapor to form "white smoke".

3. Sealing problem

(1) The cylinder liner of the diesel generator set is cracked or the cylinder gasket is damaged. As the temperature and pressure of the cooling water increase, the cooling water enters the cylinder. When the unit is exhausted, it is easy to form water mist or water vapor.

(2) The plunger and even parts of the unit are worn out. It will also cause problems with the sealing of the diesel generator set. After the sealing is reduced, some moisture will enter the inside of the diesel generator set, and the combustion of diesel will cause white smoke to be produced.

4. New or overhauled units

Newly imported or overhauled diesel generator sets have white smoke after a period of use. This failure is generally caused by the loosening of the cylinder head fixing screws.

The above is the summary of the white smoke from the diesel generator set by Starlight Power Generation Equipment, and the whole content of the cause and solution of the white smoke. It can be seen that the cause of the white smoke from the diesel generator set is insufficient pressure and low temperature. Sealing problems, new or overhauled units, etc. You can take different measures to solve the problem of white smoke from diesel generator sets according to different reasons.
