Volvo Diesel Generator Set Installation Guide

When we purchase a VOLVO diesel generator set, we need to face the problem of how to install it correctly, which may confuse many users. Reinstall the generator protective cover on the motor base.

Pull out the inner base of the generator (provided with the VOLVO diesel engine). The length pulled out should be suitable for installing the generator on the base, and the inner base should extend to the tail end of the generator to protect the generator. It should be noted that the holes for installing the shock-absorbing pads under the inner and outer chassis should be aligned. Place the compensation shim under the inner chassis, align with the holes, and weld firmly.

Motor Positioning

1.Loosen the front foot bolts of the diesel engine so that the diesel engine can be slightly lifted.

2.Lift the generator slightly and remove the transportation feet at the rear end of the diesel engine.

3.Install the crossbeam on the generator feet, and do not finally tighten the bolts (the crossbeam is processed by the assembly plant).

4.Lower the generator and place it on the base.

Motor Base Fixing

Use a level to check if the entire chassis is flat. If necessary, add shims to adjust. Scrape off the paint in all areas that need to be welded and the areas where the welding ground wire contacts, and connect the ground wire. The grounding point should be as close as possible to the welding area to avoid current flowing through the engine.

Chassis Fixing

Weld the joint of the inner and outer bases (both sides). Align the crossbeam under the generator feet so that it is perpendicular to the base and does not expose the chassis, then weld firmly.

Tighten the bolts of the front feet of the engine, and tighten the generator on the crossbeam.

Note: Do not reinstall the rear feet of the engine. For the convenience of future maintenance, if the rear feet need to be installed, they should not be tightened between the rear feet and the engine.

Unit Fixing

If the generator is fixed at the customer's site, fixed installation can be adopted. The fixed installation form must ensure:

1.The installation reference surface of the chassis should be horizontal.

2.The installation chassis and foot pads are not allowed to have the slightest deformation, and have sufficient rigidity to balance the weight of the diesel engine and the driving equipment.

Arrangement of Elastic Pads

Sometimes, in order to reduce noise and equipment vibration to the ground, elastic pads can be installed under the chassis. Their positions depend on the weight distribution of the equipment, and they are calculated to make them evenly stressed and distributed.

Unit Ventilation

When the diesel engine and water tank are installed in a closed space, sufficient ventilation and heat dissipation must be considered. The net ventilation area of the engine room should be 1.25 times the end area of the water tank. For example, if the end face of the water tank is 1m², the net area of the air inlet and outlet on the bulkhead should be at least 1.25m² each.

If the air outlet is equipped with a louver, its effective area must also be considered. For example, if the effective area is 80%, the above air outlet area should be at least: 1.25m² / 0.8 = 1.56m². When choosing the air outlet position, the wind direction should also be considered, that is, the wind should flow through the entire body of the diesel engine as much as possible to take away part of the heat.

Note that the diesel engine itself can withstand a maximum temperature of 60ºC, and the air inlet for combustion must not exceed 40ºC. Therefore, the installation position of the air filter should also be reasonably selected.
