Prelubrication Before Starting Perkins Diesel Generator

May. 11, 2023

During the working process of Perkins diesel generator, it can establish a certain lubricating oil pressure by itself to ensure its own lubricating oil circulation, so that all main lubricating parts of Perkins diesel generator are well lubricated; After the shutdown, the lubricating oil system of Perkins diesel generator also stopped working. Therefore, after the Perkins diesel generator has been shut down for a long time, there should be a pre lubrication procedure before starting to ensure that all moving parts in contact with each other have the necessary lubricating oil to avoid dry friction.

Periodic automatic pre lubrication is to set an electric oil pump in addition to the lubricating pump of Perkins diesel generator as another power source of the lubricating oil circulation system of Perkins diesel generator. When Perkins diesel generator is put into operation, the control power supply of the automatic prelubrication oil pump will be cut off immediately, and the Perkins diesel generator will automatically lubricate.

To control the shutdown of Perkins diesel generator, just cut off the fuel supply and the machine will automatically stop. However, it should be noted that different types of machines may have different requirements. Sudden shutdown may be unacceptable for the performance of some machines. It requires running for a period of time at medium speed, and then allowing oil cut-off shutdown after the temperature of Perkins diesel generator gradually decreases.

The main function of Perkins generator unit lubricating oil is to protect the unit, provide sufficient lubrication, and reduce friction. If the quality of the lubricating oil is not high, it will affect the lifespan of the generator set. Choosing a good oil can provide good maintenance for the generator set, but sometimes it may contain moisture due to incorrect operation. How to check for moisture in engine oil?

Firstly, the oil can be heated to 110 to 120 degrees Celsius by placing it in a test tube. If there is a "crackling" sound in the oil, it indicates that there is water in the oil. If there is water in the oil, indirect heating can be used to heat the oil to 110 to 120 degrees Celsius. When the bubbles in the oil disappear and cool to room temperature, the water is removed.

If the engine oil has been slightly emulsified, the following methods can be used: collect emulsified engine oil of the same brand, use phenol (petroleum carbonate) with a weight of 1% to 3% of the oil liquid weight as a demulsifier, stop stirring and heat up to 50 to 80 degrees Celsius, let it settle for 4 hours or more, wait for the oil and water to separate, remove the water in the lower layer, and then use it.

If the thickened engine oil is emulsified, it can be treated by air drying: put the emulsified thickened engine oil into a container equipped with a clean serpentine heating tube, use saturated steam to pass through the serpentine tube and stop heating, causing the oil temperature to rise to 110 to 120 degrees Celsius. At the same time, introduce clean compressed air into the container and stop stirring, allowing the water to evaporate. Until the milky white of the oil disappears and returns to a transparent color, it can be used after cooling to room temperature.
