How to Identify Non-AVR Faults in Generator Power Failure?

AVR is the abbreviation of Automatic Voltage Regulator, which is used to regulate voltage. AVR is generally used in excitation generators, mainly to adjust the generator output voltage and control the internal excitation voltage. Its essence is a feedback circuit. AVR failure can cause brushless generators to stop generating electricity, but there are many reasons for generator failure to generate electricity. How to exclude whether it is caused by AVR failure? Dingbo Power introduces 5 steps to quickly determine that the cause of generator failure to generate electricity is not an AVR fault.

1.Open the generator AVR protective cover and unplug the F1 and F2 plugs on the AVR.

 

2.Use 2 power cords of about 1 square, one end connected to the positive and negative poles of the 12V starting battery, and the other end connected to the excitation coils F1 and F2 respectively. Note that the positive pole of the battery is connected to F1, and the negative pole is connected to F2.

 

3.Turn on the start power switch and start the diesel generator to 1500 rpm to observe the changes in generator voltage and frequency.

 

4.Pay attention to electrical safety when using this method. Do not misconnect or short-circuit the line to avoid accidents.

 

5. If the voltage increases as the diesel generator speed increases, and the voltage is 400V when the generator speed reaches 50HZ. Therefore, it is judged that the brushless generator AVR is damaged and causes no power generation, and the generator AVR should be replaced. Conversely, when the diesel generator speed changes but the voltage and frequency do not change, it is judged that the cause of the generator not generating electricity is not an AVR fault.

The Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) is a sealed electronic device and the most critical control component in the generator, maintaining the stability of the generator output. The imported generator AVR is a non-repairable accessory and must be replaced when damaged.

 

To avoid generator AVR failures, the solutions are as follows:

1.The more stable the output load, the smaller the frequency of changes in the AVR, the less switching action of the transistors in the comparison circuit, and the lower the probability of AVR damage;

 

2.The more stable the generator voltage, the smaller the frequency of changes in the AVR, the less switching action of the transistors in the comparison circuit, and the lower the probability of AVR damage;

 

3.The more stable the generator speed, the smaller the oscillation impact of the changing current on the AVR;
