How Does The EGR Control System of Diesel Generator Work?

NOx is formed by nitrogen and oxygen in the air under high temperature and pressure. The NOx emissions from diesel generators are mainly related to the highest temperature inside the cylinder. The higher the maximum temperature inside the cylinder, the more NOx is emitted.


(1) The functions of the EGR control system. Introduce an appropriate amount of exhaust gas into the cylinder to participate in combustion, thereby reducing the highest temperature in the cylinder and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions. In order to ensure the normal operation and performance of diesel engines are not affected, it is necessary to control the EGR amount according to the changes in the working conditions of the diesel generator.

Different operating conditions of diesel generators require different amounts of EGR. In order to make the EGR system work more effectively, it is necessary to limit the EGR exhaust volume: 1. As the load increases, the EGR exhaust volume increases correspondingly and reaches the optimal value; When idling at low load, the NOx emission concentration is low, and EGR is not performed to ensure normal combustion; During the warm-up process, the temperature of the diesel engine is low and the concentration of NOx emissions is low. To prevent EGR from deteriorating the combustion process, EGR is not performed; To ensure the power performance of diesel generators, EGR should not be carried out at high loads, high speeds, or when the throttle valve is fully open; During the acceleration process, EGR plays a transitional role to ensure the acceleration and necessary purification effect of the equipment.


(2) The basic principle of electronic EGR control system. In the control unit of the diesel generator, there is an EGR characteristic curve that includes the required air volume for each operating point of the diesel generator. The control unit compares the actual intake volume with the calibrated intake volume using the signal from the air flow sensor. In order to compensate for the difference, the control unit sends the corresponding control signal to the EGR control valve. The EGR control system converts electrical signals into invalid signals and transmits them to the EGR valve to change the opening of the EGR valve and control the EGR rate.
