Diesel Generator Installation Requirements

Diesel generators are indispensable emergency power supply equipment, and power generation equipment has requirements for the installation environment.

1. Foundation Requirements

The foundation of the diesel generator set should be built on hard ground. After tamping, a 200mm thick concrete floor should be made, and the floor should be flat. After leveling, place the unit on the foundation so that all fulcrums are in uniform contact. Uneven areas can be padded with thin steel plates or rubber. Finally, fasten with pressure plates or bolts, which must not loosen during use.

2. Foundation Structure

The foundation structure of the diesel generator set should be determined according to the soil structure of the foundation. Under normal circumstances, the foundation depth (thickness) is 0.7-1m. The foundation can be 150mm higher than the ground or flush with the ground. The length and width of the foundation are 200mm larger than those of the common chassis.

3. Anchor Bolt Holes

The bottom of the foundation should be tamped. When pouring concrete, reserved fixing anchor holes should be made according to the position of the base fixing holes. The hole mouth size is 120×120mm, the hole bottom size is 160×160mm, and the hole depth is 450mm for fixing bolts (M18 fixing bolts).

4. Installation Methods

The unit can be fixedly installed using the foot holes of the common chassis, or using the pressure plate type installation. When using pressure plate type fixing, the width dimension of the foundation foot holes should be calculated and widened.

5. Space Requirements

A space of not less than 1 meter should be left around the diesel generator set. A ventilation window should be left at the water tank end according to the size of the water tank core. This requirement is the minimum size of the unit room, and users can increase it as needed.

6. Machine Room Design

When building the generator room, users should pre-embed I-steel for lifting on the roof above the unit (not required for units below ≤250KW) for future maintenance. The machine room should be well-ventilated, and the ground should be flat and non-slip.

7. Exhaust Pipe Installation

The exhaust pipe must be led outdoors. The diameter of the exhaust pipe must be larger than the diameter of the smoke outlet pipe of the muffler. There should be no more than 3 elbows, and the elbow angle should be greater than 90 degrees. The exhaust pipe should have supports or hoisting brackets to ensure that the unit muffler, turbocharger, etc. are not stressed. The air outlet area should be more than 1.5 times the area of the water tank.

8. Grounding Requirements

The unit shell must have reliable protective grounding, for generators that need neutral point direct grounding.

9. Fire Protection Measures

Fire extinguishers and other fire-fighting tools should be available in the generator room.

The quality of the machine room design directly affects whether the unit can operate normally and stably for a long time, whether it can meet the noise requirements of the surrounding environment, and whether it can facilitate the maintenance of the generator set. Therefore, designing a reasonable machine room is necessary both for the owner and the unit.
