Diesel Generator Exhaust Pipe Installation Requirements

All indoor generator sets must discharge exhaust gas outdoors through non-leaking exhaust pipes. The installation of exhaust pipes must comply with relevant specifications, standards, and other requirements. Mufflers, exhaust pipes, turbochargers, etc., generate high temperatures and should be kept away from flammable materials to prevent human scalding. Ensure that the emitted smoke and exhaust gas do not become a public hazard.

Each generator set must have an independent exhaust system. When more than one generator set is installed in the generator room, each should have an independent exhaust system. Because when more than one unit is running, exhaust gas entering a common pipeline will be very dangerous and may cause damage to different engine parts.

1.The exhaust pipe of each diesel generator should be led out of the room separately, preferably laid overhead or in a trench. The exhaust pipe and muffler should be supported independently and must not be directly supported on the diesel engine exhaust main pipe or fixed on other parts of the diesel engine. A flexible connection is adopted between the exhaust pipe and the exhaust main pipe. The brackets on the exhaust pipe must allow the pipe to expand or use roller-type brackets, and short flexible pipes or expansion bellows should be placed between the long pipes of two fixed frames and combined into one.

2.The length of the exhaust pipe and the matching requirements with the pipe diameter should be determined according to the data provided by the manufacturer. When the exhaust pipe needs to pass through the wall, a protective sleeve should be provided. It extends out of the room and is laid vertically along the wall. The outlet end of the pipe should be equipped with a rain cap or cut into an angle of 320~450 degrees. The wall thickness of all exhaust pipes should not be less than 3mm.

3.The direction of the diesel generator exhaust pipe should be fireproof. The part extending out of the room should have a slope of 0.3%-0.5%, sloping towards the outside to facilitate the discharge of oil fume condensate and condensed water out of the room. When the horizontal pipe of Dingbo Electric is long, a blowdown valve is installed at the lowest point.

4.When the exhaust pipe in the machine room is laid overhead, the indoor part should be provided with a thermal insulation layer, and the thickness of the thermal insulation layer below 2 meters from the ground should not be less than 60 mm. When the exhaust pipe is laid overhead below the fuel pipe or laid in a trench and needs to cross the fuel pipe, safety measures should also be considered.

5.When the exhaust pipe is long, a natural compensation section should be used. If not possible, a compensator should be installed.

6.The exhaust pipe should not have too many bends. The bending angle should be greater than 90 degrees, and generally, there should be no more than three bends. Otherwise, it will cause poor exhaust of the diesel engine and affect the power output of the diesel generator set.
