When the Cummins diesel generator was working, the air compressor cylinder head gasket leaked water and pumped air slowly. The repairman had dealt with it many times in succession. At the same time, the water displacement of the main gas cylinder increased significantly. The air pipe between the turbocharger and the intercooler was removed and inspected. The air compressor model of Cummins diesel generator is AWC-10. The air compressor obtains lubricating oil from the Cummins diesel generator lubrication system through the internal oil passage, and returns to the Cummins diesel generator crankshaft through the air compressor crankcase return oil passage box. Generally, the cooling water channels of water-cooled air compressors surround the cylinder liner of the air compressor and have no connection with the compressed air chamber. The air compressor is different from other water-cooled air compressors. The water-cooling chamber of the cover head is arranged on the cylinder head of the air compressor. The air inlet gland is pressed tightly. If the air inlet gland and cylinder head are not evenly compressed or deformed as required, the combined action of air pressure and water pressure will destroy the cylinder head gasket, and the air cavity and the water cooling cavity will pass through. When the piston of the air compressor moves downwards, the cooling water enters the air chamber along with the air. When the piston compresses upwards, part of the cooling water enters the main gas cylinder through the exhaust duct E through the exhaust valve and the other part enters the air pressure along the cylinder wall. Engine crankcase, and finally to the diesel engine crankcase.
Disassemble and inspect the air pipe between the turbocharger and the intercooler. The Cummins diesel generator has water spray because the air compressor intake pipe of the unit is connected to the intercooler, that is, the air passes through the air filter and the turbocharger. To the intercooler, one part directly enters the combustion chamber of the Cummins diesel generator, and the other part is supplied to the air compressor. When water enters the main cavity of the cylinder head of the air compressor (with intake and exhaust valves inside), or the pressure regulator works, it is possible to maintain a smooth flow between the intake and exhaust valves. In this case, when the air compressor is working, the water in the main chamber will pass through the intake and exhaust valves to the main cylinder, all the way to the air chamber of the air compressor, and the other way will enter through the intake valve along the intake port. The intercooler, when disassembling and inspecting the air pipe between the turbocharger and the intercooler, water spray will appear. At the same time, the water in the intercooler enters the combustion chamber with the gas, and will enter the engine crankcase to varying degrees.
The moisture that escapes from the air compressor chamber and the cylinder of the Cummins diesel generator into the crankcase dilutes the engine oil, and finally causes the viscosity of the lubricating oil to decrease, causing the Cummins diesel generator to burn tiles. After the disassembly inspection, it was found that there were many red rust oil stains on the inner wall of the cylinder liner, which also showed that the burning of the Cummins diesel generator was indeed due to a large amount of water mixed in the oil.
Cummins diesel generators require high oil quality. In this case, if the gasket between the main air cavity and the water cooling cavity of the air compressor cylinder head is damaged due to various reasons, the incentive for the Cummins diesel generator to burn tiles is more concealed.
