Operating Procedures for Emergency Generators Set

Oct. 16, 2019

The emergency generator shall be capable of starting in the event of cooling and shall provide the necessary power to achieve a higher design base load within 12 seconds of starting. The emergency generator set shall be capable of continuous operation where appropriate. Typical suitable conditions include temperatures from 5 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius, 100% humidity, and altitude of the installation site.

All basic equipment used in emergency generators must comply with the newer relevant British standards, or equivalent other national standards. The emergency generator must be assembled and tested in the factory and delivered to the location of the genset with a complete fuselage. The type of prime mover is not specified, but must be able to start within 15 seconds and has reliable performance. Do not use liquid fuels such as oil, fire water and similar highly volatile hazards. The lower continuous total load rating of the emergency generator shall not be lower than the power consumption of all fire-fighting red flag generators and fire elevators operating at the same time. Under any load conditions, the output voltage and frequency must be maintained to allow all fire-fighting device to operate smoothly. A warning sign shall be installed for each emergency generator and shall be hung in a conspicuous position in the emergency generator room and the main mortuary to indicate the load of the fire service unit and the fire hoist connected to the emergency generator.

The emergency generator shall retain sufficient (not less than 600 mm) space around the generator for maintenance and cleaning. The ventilation system shall be adequate to meet the requirements of the combustion process and cooling of the air. If it is necessary to use a fan to supply the air, the fan should be operated at the same time when the generator is on. The air shall be directly inputted or discharged without any obstruction, that is, fire dampers, smoke gates, or adjustable air gates shall not be fitted. If the piping for the input and / or discharge of air is not entirely built in the room in which the generator is placed, but passes through an adjoining room or unit, the fire resistance of the pipe shall be equal to that of the fire resistance of the room in which the generator is placed or of the fire resistance of the room through which the generator is placed, Whichever is the greater. Emissions from combustion shall not cause nuisance to the public and shall be discharged in accordance with the guidelines and requirements of the Environmental Protection Department.

Operation of Emergency Diesel Generator Set

1. Operating Procedure

① When the mains power fails, the generator should be started in time.

② Check that the oil, diesel, battery, and voltage are normal before starting. Is the water level in the water tank sufficient?

③ Check if the blades and drive belts are normal, check for oil leaks and other loose connections throughout the fuselage.

④ The starting time should not exceed 5 seconds. The two consecutive starts are unsuccessful. The interval should be 2 minutes after the Nankang generator is rented out. If it cannot be started after three times, the cause should be found.

⑤ After the generator is powered normally, it should be observed that the operation of each instrument is normal. If abnormal conditions are found, stop the inspection immediately.

⑥ Keep the unit load not exceeding 80% of the customer's value during operation.

⑦ After the mains supply resumes power supply, the mains is converted by reverse operation according to the startup procedure. Keep running at no load for more than 5 minutes before stopping.

⑧ During operation, pay attention to turning on the blower.

⑨ After the emergency generator is started, it should be separated by 2 hours, and the voltage, current, oil pressure and water temperature should be recorded.

⑩ In operation, to ensure the normal and safe operation of the generator set, the unit must be inspected by a combination of watching, listening, smelling and touching.

2. Daily inspection and maintenance of emergency generators

① Check the fuel level of the fuel tank and the water in the water tank. If it is insufficient, it should be added.

② Check the oil level and add enough if not enough.

③ Check the stability of each accessory installation, the anchor of the anchor and the mechanical connection.

④ Check the machine for oil leaks and water leaks.

⑤ Check whether the meters are normal, whether the battery battery water is sufficient, and check whether the battery voltage is normal.

⑥ Clean the appearance of the machine and accessories.

⑦ The generator is placed in an automatic standby state and the battery is placed in a charging state.
