Diesel generator sets use all-copper motors primarily because all-copper generators offer superior durability. The overall service life of water pumps equipped with all-copper wire motors is significantly longer than that of those with aluminum wire motors. All-copper wire motors are more energy-efficient than aluminum ones. Copper wires have lower resistance compared to aluminum wires, resulting in less heat generation, smoother current flow, minimal heat waste, and thus greater energy savings. All-copper core motors operate more quietly; aluminum wire motors produce more than twice the noise of copper wire motors. It is evident that all-copper motors are more expensive than aluminum ones. 1.The most accurate and direct method is to disassemble the generator and inspect the stator windings. After disassembly, select several points and use a sharp blade to scrape off the insulation paint on the surface of the enameled wire. Observe the color of the metal: if it is purplish red, it is copper wire; if it is silvery white, it is aluminum wire. After the inspection, it is advisable to cover the area with insulation paint again to enhance insulation.
2.Due to the physical properties of aluminum, it is not as easy to draw into very fine wires as copper. Therefore, for motors of the same power, aluminum wires are generally slightly thicker. Because aluminum wires of the same cross-sectional area have higher resistance than copper wires, to achieve the same current, the cross-sectional area (i.e., diameter) of the aluminum wire must be increased.
3.To manufacture a motor of the same power, the increased diameter of the aluminum wire leads to more windings, which cannot fit into the originally designed slots of the silicon steel sheets. Consequently, the slots must be enlarged, and the only way to do this is to increase the outer diameter and thickness of the stator.
