Pre - startup Preparations
1.Before each startup, it is necessary to check whether the cooling water or antifreeze in the diesel engine water tank is sufficient. If it is short, fill it up. Pull out the oil dipstick to check if the lubricating oil is short. If so, add it to the specified “full at rest” mark on the dipstick. Then carefully check relevant components for potential faults. If any faults are found, they must be eliminated before starting the engine.
2.Do not start the diesel engine under load. Before starting the diesel engine, make sure that the output air switch of the generator is in the closed position. After starting a general - type generator set, let the diesel engine idle for 3 - 5 minutes (at about 700 revolutions per minute). In winter when the temperature is low, the idling time should be appropriately extended for a few minutes. For an automatic generator set, idling is not required because automatic units are generally equipped with a water heater to keep the diesel engine block at about 45°C. The diesel engine can supply power normally within 8 - 15 seconds after starting.
3.Pay attention to observing the operating status. During the operation of the generator set, there should be a dedicated person on duty, constantly observing for a series of possible faults. Pay special attention to changes in important factors such as oil pressure, water temperature, oil temperature, voltage, and frequency. Also, make sure there is enough diesel. If the fuel supply is interrupted during operation, it may cause the generator set to stop under load, which may damage the generator excitation control system and related components.
4.Do not shut down the generator set under load. Before each shutdown, gradually cut off the load first, then close the output air switch of the generator set, and finally reduce the speed of the diesel engine to idle for about 3 - 5 minutes before shutting it down.
Startup Process
1.Turn the fuel fine - adjustment operating handle or press the “engine speed up” button to fix the diesel engine throttle at a position equivalent to the unit's idling speed (about 500 - 700 rpm).
2.Turn on the power switch. The power indicator light will turn on. Then start the pre - supply pump, with each operation not exceeding 30 seconds. If the required result is not achieved in the next operation, wait for 30 seconds and repeat. Keep doing this until the oil pressure reaches 0.2 - 0.3 MPa. Then press the start button to start the diesel engine. At this time, the operating indicator light will turn on. If the diesel engine fails to start 12 seconds after pressing the start button, wait for 2 minutes before making a second attempt. If it fails to start after three consecutive attempts, check and find out the cause of the fault. After a successful start, push the pre - heating switch back to its original position.
3.After the diesel engine starts, control the speed at about 600 - 700 rpm and closely monitor the oil pressure reading. If there is no oil pressure indication, stop the engine immediately for inspection.
4.If the low - speed operation is normal, gradually increase the speed to 1000 - 1200 rpm for pre - heating the diesel engine. When the water temperature reaches about 50°C and the oil temperature reaches about 45°C, increase the speed to 1545 rpm or 1575 rpm. The charging indicator light will turn on. Adjust the generator voltage to the rated value. At this time, the frequency meter reading should point to 51.5 Hz or 52.5 Hz.
5.If the unit is operating normally at this time, close the automatic air switch and then gradually increase the load. Note that this air switch is equipped with an under - voltage protection device. It can only be closed when the generator voltage reaches more than 70% of the rated voltage (when closing, first press the switch handle down and then close it upwards). After the switch is opened, if the generator voltage drops to 40 - 70% of the rated voltage, the switch will bounce up once, but it will not be in the closed position. This is a normal phenomenon.
Shutdown Process
1.Gradually unload the load and disconnect the automatic air switch.
2.Under no - load conditions, gradually reduce the speed to 600 - 700 rpm. Stop the engine after the water and oil temperatures of the diesel engine drop below 70°C.
