1. Overview
The electronic unit pump (EUP) injection system is a new type of fuel injection system for diesel generator sets, which can freely and flexibly adjust the fuel injection quantity and timing, and has high injection pressure.
2. Technical Features of Electronic Unit Pump
Most Euro III and Euro IV commercial vehicles in Europe have adopted the electronic unit pump system. The electronic unit pump technology combined with mechanical injectors can meet the Euro III emission standards; upgrading from Euro III to Euro IV can be achieved by replacing the electronic injectors without large-scale modifications to the engine structure.
It has little modification to the original mechanical injection system engine structure, and can share the same important components such as the engine block and cylinder head.
After-sales maintenance is convenient and the cost of parts replacement is low.
High injection pressure: It can meet the high-pressure injection required for Euro III and Euro IV emissions (the latest unit pump injection pressure has reached 2500 bar), which greatly improves fuel economy and the degree of in-cylinder purification.
3. System Structure and Performance
The electronic unit pump system is a modular, time-controlled single-cylinder high-pressure pump system. The injection start point and injection quantity are determined by the closing time and duration of the solenoid valve respectively, and can reach an injection pressure of 2000 bar. The electronic unit pump system is fully capable of meeting current and future emission limits and maintaining low fuel consumption.
The injection law is slow first and then fast, which meets the requirements of the ideal heat release law and is conducive to reducing emissions and combustion noise.
Strong oil supply capacity: It can perform independent control of each cylinder. It is especially suitable for heavy-duty diesel engines with large power.
For medium and heavy-duty engines, the system components are more mature than the common rail system due to different internal structural characteristics.
4. Comparison with Common Rail System
Compared with the common rail system, the unit pump system has relatively lower requirements for fuel quality, and its sensitivity to moisture is much better than that of the common rail system. There is no safety hazard caused by a continuous high-pressure injection source, and the emission stability is good.
The system components are more mature than the common rail system and have a longer service life.
Low maintenance cost: Single-cylinder parts can be replaced, and the cost of mechanical injectors is lower than that of electronic injectors. The cylinder balance control strategy provides good consistency control of each cylinder, the unit pump self-calibration strategy ensures production consistency control, and the electronic control system self-learning and self-diagnosis strategies ensure performance consistency control during the service life.
