The electric pulse water temperature gauge of diesel generator set is composed of an indicator and a temperature sensing plug screwed into the cylinder head water jacket, which is connected by a wire.
The temperature sensing plug is a sealed brass tube with threads on its head for screwing into the water jacket. The tube is equipped with a grounding base plate. One end of the base plate is riveted with a fixed contact, and the other end is insulated and fixed on the copper tube of the temperature sensing plug. A heating coil is wound on the bimetallic strip. One end of the heating coil is welded on the bimetallic strip, and the other end is connected with the wiring screw through the conductive strip. The bimetallic sheet is riveted with a movable contact, which contacts with a fixed contact.
There is also a bimetallic strip in the indicator head, which is also wound with a heating coil. One end is connected to the wiring screw, the other end is connected to the fuse, and then it is connected to the negative pole of the battery through the ignition switch and ammeter. One end of the bimetal is fixed in the case, and the other end is connected with the watch needle through a connecting rod. The dial is engraved with 40, 80, 100 and other numbers to indicate the temperature value in Celsius (℃). Before the circuit is connected, the internal contact of the temperature sensing plug is kept in a closed state with a certain pressure, and the pointer is at the position of the highest temperature.
When the ignition switch is closed and the circuit is connected, both the temperature sensing plug and the heating coil in the meter head are electrically heated, and the bimetallic sheet gradually rises and bends. When the temperature rises to a certain extent, the contact opens and cuts off the circuit. The bimetallic sheet, due to the heat dissipation and temperature drop, makes the contact points reunite again, and the circuit is connected again. The heating coil is electrically heated again, and its temperature rises again. This repeatedly makes the contact open and close cycle work. However, the working state of the bimetallic sheet in the temperature sensing plug varies with the temperature of the cooling water in the water jacket.
When the water temperature is low, the heat of the bimetallic sheet is easy to be dissipated. The heating coil needs to be energized for a long time to bend the bimetallic sheet, so that the contact can be separated. After the contact is separated, it is easy to cool and straighten, so that the contact can be reunited again. Therefore, when the water temperature is low, the contact closure time is longer than the opening time, that is, the power on time is long, the bimetallic sheet in the meter head is heated for a long time, and the bending degree is large, so the pointer is indicated at the low temperature side. On the contrary, when the water temperature is high, the heating coil is powered on for a short time, which can bend the bimetallic sheet and open the contact. After the contact is disconnected, it is not easy to cool and straighten. Therefore, when the water temperature is high, the contact opening time is longer than the closing time. The heating coil is powered on for a short time, and the bimetallic sheet in the meter head is less heated and bent, so the pointer is on the side with higher temperature.
