Connecting Rod Group Composition of Generator Set

The connecting rod group of generator set is composed of connecting rod body, connecting rod cap, connecting rod bolts and connecting rod bearings, forged with manganese alloy structural steel, and quenched, tempered and shot blasted.

The small end of the connecting rod is used to install the piston pin. There are two bushes in the small end of the connecting rod. The clearance stroke groove between the two bushes. The oil passages of the rod body are connected with each other. The oil entering the rod body hole is sent to the small end to lubricate the piston pin and bushing. The small head is wedge-shaped, which can reduce the weight of the connecting rod and make the oil cooling the top of the piston fall down to lubricate the piston pin again.


The connecting rod body of the generator set is connected with the small end and the large end of the connecting rod. The rod body is in I-shaped section, which not only reduces the weight of the connecting rod, but also ensures that the connecting rod has sufficient stiffness and strength. There is an oil passage with a small lubricating head in the middle of the rod body. The oil passage at the big end deviates from the center of the connecting rod. Its purpose is to improve the bearing capacity. When the piston has the maximum explosion pressure at TDC, the oil pressure hole on the crankshaft is just aligned with the oil hole of the connecting rod body, which can provide sufficient lubrication for the piston pin and extend the service life of the piston pin.


The big end of the connecting rod is of the flat cut type, the connecting rod cap and the connecting rod body are positioned by two cylindrical pins, and they are fastened on the two rod bodies by screws with precision machined threads (with locking devices). The tightening torque of the connecting rod screws is 190~203N · m.


Two different types of connecting rods are used on the diesel engine of the generator set. The two types of connecting rod can be interchanged completely and can be installed on the same engine.


In the early design, the connecting rod is equipped with two assembly locating rings on the rod body and cover. The connecting rod has only one balancing table on the rod body and cover. The connecting rod body and the connecting rod cap are now designed with four unit rings. The connecting rod has a balancing table on the rod body and the cover respectively.


Connecting rod bearing is installed in the connecting rod big end, and wear-resistant alloy bearing bush is used. The top of the steel back is a copper lead alloy layer with an alloy thickness of 0.5mm. The second is kneading, with a thickness of 0.01 mm, to improve the bonding of the covering layer. The top layer is coated with copper lead alloy, which improves the bearing's ability to bear load and fatigue resistance, and also has good wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, the bearing bush with electroplated coating should not be bored or scraped, otherwise, the coating will be off, completely removing the original meaning of adding coating.


Two different connecting rod bearing shells are used in the diesel engine of the generator set. The current connecting rod bearing shells have greater bearing capacity than the earlier connecting rod bearing shells. Do not mix the new and old bearing shells on the same connecting rod. The different connecting rod bearing shells can be identified by the part number on the back of the connecting rod bearing shells. Never mix bearing shells of different models on the same connecting rod.
