Causes and Solutions for Diesel Generator Overheating in Summer

During the operation of a diesel generator, the combustion of diesel itself causes the temperature of the diesel engine to rise sharply. In a high - temperature environment, not only is the working efficiency of the diesel generator affected, but it may also lead to component failures. Therefore, we need to cool the heated parts. However, if the cooling system fails to dissipate the excessive heat in time, the most common cause of diesel generator set overheating is a cooling system malfunction. If there is a problem with the cooling system, it may result in poor cooling, causing the water temperature inside the unit to be too high and leading to a shutdown. A water leak in the water tank that lowers the water level will also prevent the unit from operating normally. The cooling system consists of a water pump, a radiator, a thermostat, a fan, etc. So, to determine which component is faulty, professional technicians are required for inspection.

 

Abnormal Operation of the Diesel Generator Cooling System

1.Fan Malfunction: Issues such as incorrect blade angles, blade deformation, or reverse installation of fan blades may occur. You can correct the blade angles or replace the fan assembly. If the airflow direction cannot be changed due to reverse installation and the air volume is significantly reduced, the fan should be correctly installed.

2.Loose Belt: The tension of the fan drive belt should be properly adjusted. Adjustment method: Press or pull the middle of the drive belt with a force of 55N (equivalent to the gravity of an object weighing about 5.6 kilograms). If the stressed point moves about 18 millimeters from its original position, the tension is appropriate.

3.Blocked Radiator Duct: When the radiator duct is blocked, the heat - dissipation area decreases, the air - flow speed slows down or stops, and normal heat dissipation cannot be achieved. Dingbo Power, a generator manufacturer, suggests removing debris and grass and cleaning it with a water gun.

4.Excessive Scale in the Diesel Generator Water Jacket and Radiator or Blocked Water Pipes: This reduces the volume inside the cooling system, increases the resistance of water circulation, and the scale reduces the heat - dissipation effect, causing the engine to overheat, reducing engine power, seizing the fuel injector, and even leading to serious accidents.

5.Water Pump Malfunction: If the fit between the water - pump pulley or impeller and the water - pump shaft fails, causing the impeller to disengage from the drive, repair or replace the failed parts. If the cross - section of the water - pump impeller is worn and the water - pumping capacity decreases, replace the impeller.

6.Thermostat Failure: The thermostat automatically regulates the temperature of the cooling water to keep the diesel engine within the optimal operating temperature range.
